A striking connection

Between 2005 and 2011 Boogert photographed and interviewed students in The Netherlands, Rusia, Kenya, Moldave, Cuba, Bolivia, Philippines and India. The result is a intriguing insight in a generation - proud, curious, in their prime and domain. Whether the picture is taken in Moscow, Manilla or Maastricht - the connection and resemblance is striking.

“When Boogert approached BrandOutLoud and told us about his project, it directly reminded me of my own time as a student. I was a 18-year-old girl moving from a small village in Brabant to live and study in the city Utrecht. ‘Op kamers’ is defenitely a typical Dutch expression for students living nearer their universities. To be honest, no good translation will meet. Though many people will have this connection, and that is what makes this project touch you deeply.”

Positive image

At BrandOutLoud we strive for more positive image of international development. We believe in portraying people in a respectful way showing their strength and dignity. Often with the sector people associate positive imaging with showing ‘happy smiley faces’. Though it is more - this photo series and project is a great example.

“This series shows that people themselves make a essential part of this change. For themselves, their families and country. They are the future politicians, leaders, businessmen. The way Boogert visualised this - pure, sincere and esthetical - is phenomenal. And I am honoured to be -in this humble way- to be part of it.”

The exhibition ‘Op Kamers’ will be open till 26th of February in de Melkweg Galerie. After that it will move to different universities and public libraries in The Netherlands. In the end the show will be also travel to the countries where the students were portrayed.
