Life Beyond Maize

25 October 2017

In Zambia, food is maize. Mono-cropping is big and leads to limited diversity: on the land and on the plate. It’s time for a life beyond maize…

Our latest video production ‘Life Beyond Maize’  zooms in on this issue, that definitely deserves attention. But what means food to people? Which choices do they make? Like Johannes, a farmer in Chongwe said: ‘You see me strong because of the things I eat’.

Commissioned by Hivos and IIED, this video is part of a series for their programme 'Sustainable Diets for All'. We travelled and worked in Zambia, portraying different Zambians why food diversity counts. These are their stories.

In 2018, we will be heading to Bolivia, Indonesia and Uganda to hear and film more people’s  food choices and voices.
